Mission Statement

"Our mission is to help tour operators, their suppliers and local partners to apply and develop the general principles of Responsible Tourism (RT) in their destinations".

We aim to do this by:

providing a methodology and operating procedure which will help the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) to fulfil its commitment to that part of its Responsible Tourism Guidelines related to working with suppliers and partners in destinations.

providing a means by which local partners can improve their RT skills and understanding and be placed on a list of RT-approved suppliers.

developing a model for the guidance of tour operators and their suppliers on Responsible Tourism management in destinations.We intend to promote this programme by:

working with AITO to encourage operators to "sign" up their existing suppliers, thus broadening the scope of AITO's own RT strategy.

approaching independent supplier contacts, overseas government tourist offices and trade associations to widen the approval of destination schemes.
